In a recent interaction with her, Kajol said she didn't want to play the iconic role of 'Anjali.' Because she was very much interested in doing Rani Mukherjee's role. 

For this, she even fought with Karan Johar for a long time. But Karan stuck to his decision to only take Kajol as 'Anjali' in the movie. Kajol said, "I fought in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. I fought with Karan. I wanted to play Tina's role, and he said, "No. You are playing Anjali." I was like, "I want to play Tina's role. You don't know what I will do with Tina." Karan told me to shut up. I fought him tooth and nail for 45 minutes, but he refused categorically."

In a recent episode of Karan's show Koffee with Karan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee had hot coffee together, and Karan said that during the filming of 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,' Kajol maintained a silent distance from Rani Mukherjee. 

On the show, Karan revealed that Kajol and Rani were not so close at the beginning of their film careers despite being cousins. But things have changed now, to which Rani also agreed.
